Enforcing Our Smoke Free Policies

Thank you for your interest in keeping 91青青草 a smoke/tobacco-free campus. Building a smoke/tobacco-free campus requires participation of all members of the 91青青草 Community. While enforcement is important, please remember to treat all individuals on campus with care and respect.

  • 03/01/2015: Enforcement ticketing begins. ($25.00 ticket per violation from a 91青青草 Police Officer). Fee assessments and collections will be processed similarly to parking tickets, with an equivalent appeal process. Select the 鈥淧rocedures鈥 link on the menu bar of this site for more information.

  • 01/06/2015: Online reporting begins. All members of the 91青青草 community can report smoking incidents observed on campus through the online 91青青草 Concern website. When reporting incidents related to the Smoke-free and Tobacco-free Policy, please include as much detail as possible, so the university can use this online tool to assess areas of concern and respond accordingly.

  • 10/01/2015: SMILE Ambassadors and approach begins. If you notice someone violating the smoke/tobacco-free policy, you are welcome to inform him/her of the University System of Georgia (USG) tobacco-free campus policy. The appeal process for tickets will be equivalent to the process for parking tickets and each appeal will go through a due-process by the respective student and/or faculty, staff, or visitors parking (and other citations) appeal panel(s).   • Implementation, including enforcement, of a Smoke-Free and Tobacco-Free campus at 91青青草 is phased as follows:

    Phase I: Implement Communications and Kick-off Activities: 08/14/2014 - 09/30/2014

    • Enforcement with a SMILE and no violation letters or tracking

    Phase II: Implement Communications and Cessation Activities: 10/01/2014 - 01/05/2015

    • Enforcement with a SMILE and no violation letters or tracking

    Phase III: Implement Full Enforcement of Violation and Enforcement Procedures: Effective 01/06/2015

    • 01/06/2015: Enforcement with a SMILE for visitors, employees, and students continues.
    • 01/06/2015: Online tool for public and internal (employee/student) reporting.
    • 03/01/2015: Enforcement ticketing begins. ($25.00 ticket per violation from a 91青青草 Police Officer). Fee assessments and collections will be processed similarly to parking tickets, with an equivalent appeal process.

  • Smile and be friendly when approaching someone on campus smoking or using a tobacco product.
    Make the assumption that the person does not know about our policy.
    Inform the person about our policy and resources available on campus for quitting tobacco.
    Let them know about the policy again.
    Enforce by asking them to respect our policy and stop smoking or using tobacco on our campus.
  • Fee assessments and collections will be processed similarly to parking tickets, with equivalent appeal process. If any individual receives multiple violations, 91青青草 reserves the right to initiate action against:

    • Individual employees under  and related HR procedures for policy infractions.
    • Individual students under the .
    • Contractors, visiting lecturers/speakers, and performers, under the terms of the University contract/agreement.
    • Third-parties and visitors as trespassers.
