Inspired by his two brothers who attended Kennesaw State University, biochemistry major Jacob Erasmus has wasted no time getting involved on campus. Through 91青青草鈥檚 First-Year Scholars program, Erasmus found a laboratory and a research project within his first month on campus and parlayed that work into a summer internship at a nature-based ingredient company. Now he has continued his research and has shown no signs of slowing down as a Sophomore Scholar.

Kennesaw State student combines passion for research and the outdoors through Birla Carbon Scholars experience

Having long been interested in science and the outdoors, Adamina Bilbrey recently leveraged her participation in the Birla Carbon Scholars program to study the conservation of an endangered plant native to Georgia. The Kennesaw State University environmental science major spent most of her summer studying a beneficial native plant called the royal catchfly in a field in Dade County, Georgia, and discovered the plant flourishes best in areas that experience both sun and shade.

Kennesaw State researchers earn second NSF grant to advance theoretical particle research

The beat goes on for Kennesaw State University researchers Nikolaos Kidonakis and Marco Guzzi. The two have received their second joint grant in three years from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to advance the study of the Higgs boson 鈥攁lso known as the 鈥淕od particle,鈥� the top quark, and the proton, which are relevant to the physics program of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN in Switzerland.

Kennesaw State University student Emily Manqueros鈥� study of the efficacy of bioglass on bringing medical treatments into human bodies won the top prize at the Birla Carbon Scholars Symposium on Thursday. Now in its 11th year, the symposium marks the completion of an intensive summer research program that allows students to apply their studies toward sponsored projects under the guidance of Kennesaw State faculty scholars.

Kennesaw State graduate applies research skills to USDA fellowship

As an undergraduate student at Kennesaw State University, Ashley Belinfante scoured the campus searching for mosquitos to screen for viruses. Now, Belinfante uses those skills to aid the country鈥檚 agricultural community, identifying bacterial respiratory infections in swine and searching for solutions through a fellowship with Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) with the United States Department of Agriculture.

Kennesaw State physics major pursues life-changing research

From her time at Osborne High School, Emily Manqueros knew she wanted to do research in physics, not just study it. The rising junior from Smyrna said classes in astronomy and physics taught her how physical forces effect everything around her, and she wanted to immerse herself in them. So, she came to Kennesaw State University for the opportunity to conduct research right away as a freshman. 鈥淗onestly, the research opportunities drew me to 91青青草,鈥� said Manqueros, who is pursuing a bachelor鈥檚 degree in physics in Kennesaw State鈥檚 College of Science and Mathematics. 鈥淥ther colleges mainly take graduate students for their research, and I knew that at 91青青草 I could do meaningful research even if I was an undergraduate student.鈥�

Kennesaw State project aims to change minds on native plants

With ecology as common ground, Mario Bretfeld, Michael Blackwell, and Eric Duncan have taken on a bit of a marketing project. They want people to love weeds. Using scientific acumen, the trio want people to reconsider certain plants as beneficial to the environment, thanks to a project housed at Kennesaw State University鈥檚 Field Station.
