    A Kennesaw State University professor has received a joint appointment with Idaho National Laboratory (INL), a collaboration that will enhance engineering research within the Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology (SPCEET). This partnership will also offer engineering and engineering technology students valuable hands-on experience and the chance to study applied engineering in nuclear applications.     The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently reported that obesity was prevalent in more than 40 percent in U.S. adults. To combat this, Kennesaw State University assistant professor Liang Zhao aims to use artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to explore health determinants that lead to obesity in rural areas. Zhao鈥檚 research, supported by a $51,747 National Institutes of Health (NIH) AIM-AHEAD grant, examines the social determinants of health, or SDOH.

She has also been named a President鈥檚 Parliament Scholar Ambassador, serves as a Radow College Ambassador, is a Double Owl pursuing both bachelor鈥檚 and master鈥檚 degrees simultaneously, and serves as a campus tour guide.
