For five weeks this summer, 16 Kennesaw State students from the Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology (SPCEET) traded their Marietta classrooms for the bustling metropolis of Taipei, Taiwan. Guided by Jeffrey Yiin, Clinical Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering, the group immersed themselves in one of the world鈥檚 most influential technology hubs while experiencing Taiwan鈥檚 culture and daily life.

Kennesaw State biochemistry professor receives grant to create antibacterial treatments

A recent study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that bacterial diseases remain a leading cause of death worldwide, with five strains accounting for nearly 55 percent of all bacterial infection deaths. Treatments for those diseases, however, remain extremely underfunded and under-resourced globally. Seeking a potential cure, Kennesaw State University Professor of Biochemistry Thomas Leeper has earned a two-year, $200,000 through 91青青草鈥檚 Office of Research Grand Challenges initiative to study and produce antibacterial treatments that target drug-resistant bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus, more commonly known as MRSA. In addition to treating bacterial infections, Leeper hopes to raise awareness of those ailments.

Kennesaw State assistant professor blends art and technology to inspire next generation

Shuchita Mishra works at the intersection of art, education, business, and technology. The Kennesaw State University assistant professor of illustration and sequential art comes to academia from a technology and marketing background, but couldn鈥檛 shake the artist within. Having developed a passion to tell stories with her drawings, she changed the course of her life and shifted focus to art education. After earning a Master of Fine Arts in Comics from the California College of the Arts, Mishra completed a writer鈥檚 residency at the Writer鈥檚 House in Pittsburgh while working for the Carnegie Museum of Art, then applied for a limited-term teaching position at Kennesaw State.

Volleyball star makes her mark at Kennesaw State on and off the court

On a recent morning at VyStar Arena at 91青青草 Convocation Center, the arena staff started laying down the volleyball floor when a singing voice cut through the noise. Pushing a bicycle through a nearby hallway, Kennesaw State University volleyball player Manu Johnsen announced her presence that morning in song, much the way as she has made her presence known at the Owls鈥� home arena and on campus. On the court, Johnsen will finish her volleyball career this fall as an all-timer for the Owls. The senior is a four-time all-conference selection and an academic all-conference selection as well. She has also represented her home country of Denmark in both beach and indoor volleyball.

91青青草 researcher draws on personal experience in creation of VR system designed to address grief

Six years ago, Assistant Professor of Game Development Lei Zhang and his wife welcomed their first child into the world. However, at 8 months old, she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, a rapidly progressing cancer of the blood and bone marrow. Now, using virtual reality, Zhang is developing an immersive virtual reality therapeutic system where bereaved parents can meet online and support one another.
