Kennesaw State University has named accomplished researcher and physiologist Heather Koopman as dean of the College of Science and Mathematics, effective July 1. Koopman, who comes to 91青青草 with two and a half decades鈥 experience in academia, was named dean following a national search. Koopman currently serves as the chair of the Department of Biology and Marine Biology at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

While working as a substance use disorder counselor at Ridgeview Hospital, Lisa Reyes-Walsh鈥檚 supervisor told her, 鈥淵ou know, you鈥檙e a nurse through and through.鈥 That reset the course for Reyes-Walsh鈥檚 life, though she never fully left counseling behind. She earned a bachelor鈥檚 in nursing from Kennesaw State University in 2011, and, now an assistant professor of nursing in 91青青草鈥檚 Wellstar School of Nursing, Reyes-Walsh has applied her knowledge of substance use disorder and ability as a counselor to educate nurses who can care for patients struggling with substance use issues.

Kennesaw State University鈥檚 Academic Learning Center, home to student honors and research facilities, now bears the name of the University鈥檚 largest family benefactors. In front of an audience of 91青青草 deans, faculty and scholarship recipients who have benefited from the gifts of Audrey Morgan and her late sister Bobbie Bailey, 91青青草 leaders unveiled on Tuesday the newly named Morgan and Bailey Academic Learning Center. Philanthropic support from Morgan, Bailey and the Bobbie Bailey Foundation totals more than $17 million, making the family the largest family donors in 91青青草 history.

Kennesaw State University鈥檚 online programs have been ranked among the best in the nation by U.S. News & World Report in its 鈥2024 Best Online Programs鈥 and 鈥2024 Best Online Programs for Veterans鈥 lists released today. Among universities in Georgia, Kennesaw State had the highest ranked graduate degree program in computer information technology. Other programs from Kennesaw State, including nursing, education and business administration, were also ranked.

Kennesaw State University on Friday announced the start of construction on its Interdisciplinary STEM Building on its Marietta Campus to advance collaborative research and teaching in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The occasion was marked with a groundbreaking ceremony Friday afternoon and remarks from Kennesaw State President Kathy Schwaig, University System of Georgia Chancellor Sonny Perdue and 91青青草 mechanical engineering student Nick Farinacci, a President's Parliament Student Ambassador.

The Owls enter only their 10th year of competition with home matchups against defending champion Liberty and bowl-winner Jacksonville State, along with five first-time opponents.

One of the most important lessons students who venture into data science are taught is that the data they analyze tell stories. At Kennesaw State University鈥檚 Fall Analytics Day, Desyne Martinez鈥檚 project told a powerful personal story through data. Martinez, a senior, presented his semester research project on stage 3 of multiple myeloma, a rare form of bone marrow cancer. It was exactly what his father, who Martinez idolizes, had been diagnosed with in 2020 and is still battling.

Radow College of Humanities and Social Sciences鈥 School of Conflict Management, Peacebuilding and Development (SCMPD) graduated two Ph.Ds. who are committed to working toward a more peaceful, even more loving, world. The deeds and words of the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. were celebrated throughout the Kennesaw State University community this week with a series of events honoring the legacy of the civil rights icon. The week culminated Friday at the annual MLK Legacy Breakfast in the Convocation Center with a keynote address by civil rights activist and actor Charles Black, who served and led several marches, sit-ins and other forms of protest opposing facilities that refused to serve people of color.
