Arts91 Magazine is now available online.

Kennesaw State University College of the Arts (COTA) has published Arts91 Magazine, covering 2019-2020. Formerly “Flourish Magazine,” Arts91 Magazine highlights stories of students, alumni, donors, performances, and more.

Highlights of the issue include a message from Ivan Pulinkala, dean of the College of the Arts, and an introduction to the COTA Ambassador’s Council. Members of the Ambassador’s Council serve as advocates for Arts91 in the Atlanta community and beyond through volunteer leadership and fundraising activities. Donors are vital for supporting the arts at 91, and Arts91 Magazine pays tribute to Jay and Debra Yunek for their generous donation to the Department of Dance. The magazine also lists over 150 individual donors to the arts in 2019-2020, as well as a list of endowments and student scholarships.

The students are what make the arts at 91 so vibrant, and Arts91 Magazine features students Hanson Bassey, a sculpture and 3D artist, and Shari Purnell, a dance student. Arts91 tags along with Ryan Gregory and his interesting journey to the Atlanta Opera Orchestra (BM, Performance,’16). Next, readers will learn that “Frances Wasn’t A Saint” as they read about April Marten and her art career (BFA, Drawing & Painting, ’12). Patrons who have attended a show in Atlanta over the past year may have seen Ben Rawson’s work in lighting design; he designs lighting in many of the Atlanta theaters (BA, Theatre, ’16).

Lighting also plays a key role in the newly constructed studios of the  School of Art and Design facilities at Chastain Pointe, as the facilities will primarily house drawing, painting, and printmaking spaces. Readers will also get a glimpse of the new box office at the Marietta Dance Theater that will make the ticketing process easier for both the patrons and the patron services staff.

Finally, Arts91 Magazine explores the Tina Dunkley Fellows exhibitions “Looming Chaos” and “UNBOUND” by TK Smith and Nzinga Simmons at the Bernard A. Zuckerman Museum of Art. The exhibitions are in partnership with Clark Atlanta University Art Museum, one of many partnerships that Arts91 enjoys. Additional partnerships are with Terminus Modern Ballet Theatre and the Alliance Theatre, to name a few.
